Michael Hope ("we", "us") is the data controller for personal information collected through this website. This page explains what we collect, why, and what your rights are under UK GDPR.

1. What we collect

  • Account & order data — name, email, billing and shipping address, phone (if you provide one), order history.
  • Payment — handled by Stripe. Card details never touch our servers; we hold a Stripe customer reference and the last four digits of saved cards.
  • Newsletter — your email address, only if you subscribe.
  • Technical — server access logs (IP address, browser, referrer) for fraud prevention and debugging. Retained 30 days.
  • Cookies — a session cookie for sign-in, a 12-hour cart cookie. No advertising or third-party tracking cookies are used at this time.

2. Why we have it (legal basis)

  • To fulfil your order — performance of contract.
  • To send the newsletter — your consent. You can withdraw it at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email.
  • To meet our legal obligations — tax record retention (HMRC), accounting.
  • For fraud prevention and security — our legitimate interests in protecting the business.

3. Who we share it with

  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • Royal Mail / Evri / similar carriers — only the address needed to ship your order.
  • Hosting providers — our website host and database server, who store the data on our behalf under written agreements.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it for advertising purposes.

4. How long we keep it

Order records: 6 years after the order date (HMRC requirement). Account profile and saved addresses: until you delete them. Newsletter subscription: until you unsubscribe. Server logs: 30 days.

5. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can:

  • Ask us for a copy of the data we hold on you.
  • Ask us to correct anything that's wrong.
  • Ask us to delete your account and data, subject to our HMRC retention obligation for orders you've placed.
  • Ask us to stop using your data for direct marketing.
  • Withdraw consent for the newsletter at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

To exercise any of these rights, email ant@michaelhopeclothing.com. We respond within one calendar month.
